 Age Groupings

Technically, the USA Hockey in-line season runs from September 1 of one year through August 31 of the following year, just like the USA Hockey ice season. As a result, even though the Junior FireAnts are dormant from September 1, 2009, through April 1, 2010, our "2010 Season" is actually the 2009-2010 Season. Therefore, team eligibility is based on a player's age as of December 31, 2009.

For example, a player who was 12 years old on December 31, 2009, and played on a PeeWee ice hockey team during the 2009-2010 season will be eligible to play on the 2010 Junior Ants 12U team, even though he or she will be 13 years old by December 31, 2010.

Refund Policy
The initial $60.00 payment is due no later than March 27, 2010. If your child is not placed on a Travel Team or in the Developmental Program, you will receive a $50.00 refund. If your child is placed on a Travel Team or in the Developmental Program and you decide not to participate in the Junior FireAnts Program before the first Team Practice, you will receive a $50.00 refund only if you notify Jay Creel of your decision before that practice.

What Do These Fees Cover?

For Travel Team players, the $450 fee covers all the Practices, Clinics, HVRHL games (12 plus playoffs), Nutmeg State Games (minimum 3 games), and Summer Showdown games (minimum 3 games) noted above. In addition, each player will receive a 2010 Junior FIreAnts practice jersey and a season ticket to the 2010-2011 professional Hartford Fireants home games. A separate uniform purchase is required for all Travel Team players (see details below).

For Developmental Program players, the $125 fee covers up to 10 Practices and up to 15 Clinics, and each player will receive a 2010 Junior FireAnts practice jersey.
Players will be allowed to participate on Travel Teams on a per game basis, if the coach determines the player is capable and displays the ability to represent the organization effectively. An additional $25 per game fee will be payable when a Developmental Program player participates on a Travel Team.
Developmental Program players are not required to purchase uniforms but may do so if desired.  Uniforms will be available on loan to players who are invited to play on Travel Teams and do not have their own uniforms.

What Don’t These Fees Cover?

Travel Team
  • USA Hockey In-Line registration fee. All Travel Team players must be registered with USA Hockey In-Line (USAHIL) for the current season (September 1, 2009 through August 31, 2010). A USA Hockey (ice hockey) registration does not make a player a member of USAHIL. Inline hockey and ice hockey are two separate sports and their memberships and benefits are separate as well. Each player participating in inline hockey under USAHIL must register with USAHIL, even if he or she is already registered with USA Hockey for ice hockey.  The registration fee is $30.00, and membership expires on August 31, 2010. Each player's current USAHIL registration number must be entered into the Junior Ants database no later than May 15, 2010
  • Complete uniforms (home and away jerseys and pants) must be purchased by all Travel Team players who do not already have them.  The complete uniform cost is expected to be approximately $180. Some Hudson Valley teams play on asphalt outdoor rinks. For those games, players are encouraged to wear “rec” pants in order to preserve the good team pants for home games and tournament games.
  • Participation on Multiple Tournament Teams. HVRHL does not allow players to participate on multiple teams during a single season. For example, a player who is eligible for the 12U team, cannot play on both the 12U and 14U teams. However, most tournaments (such as the Nutmeg Games) do not impose such restrictions. In these situations, a player may be allowed to play on both his or her standard team (e.g., 12U) and a secondary older team (e.g., 14U). If a player is offered an opportunity to play up for another Junior Ants team during a tournament and elects to take advantage of this opportunity, he or she will have to pay an additional per game fee for each "secondary team" game in which he or she participates. This fee will be determined on a tournament-by-tournament basis and will be payable prior to the start of each game in which the player participates. Note that playing up is not an alternative to playing on an assigned team, but an addition to that standard assignment.
